Heritage Groups
The Salton Brothers

From 1962-63, future Cathedrals pianist Lorne Matthews and his wife Jimmie Ruth were members of the Salton Brothers, along with Doug, Don, and Bill Salton, and bass player Bernie Talbot. This group was Canada's first full-time Gospel group; they traveled with their own bus.
They were also one of the first interracial Gospel groups; Bernie Talbot, their bass guitar player, was a black man. At most venues this caused no problems; however, at one venue in Maryland, he was not allowed on the platform of the church and had to stay in the bus.
The Salton Brothers broadcast a weekly Southern Gospel television program from London, Ontario; this program was the first of its kind in Canada.

This tribute site is maintained by Daniel J. Mount, who also maintains a Southern Gospel Blog. The official Cathedrals site is www.cathedralquartet.com.
